Building sound Clasification

According to the Building Technical Regulation STR 2.01.07: 2003 “Protection of the interior and exterior of buildings from the noise”, the quality of the noise protection of buildings is expressed in five (A, B, C, D and E) sound classes (acoustic comfort) systems.

The Regulation applies to structures or parts thereof for newly built, reconstructed or capitalized renovations for various purposes (residential, medical, scientific, administrative, residential, etc.). Noise emitted by various buildings or parts of buildings intended to be used in this area must not impair the indicators of indoor and outdoor ambient noise in the vicinity of existing buildings.

  • A sound class – a particularly good class of acoustic comfort;
  • B sound class – improved acoustic comfort class;
  • Sound C class – acceptable acoustic comfort class;
  • Sound class D – Class of undercurrent acoustic comfort;
  • E Sound Class – Grade condition for acoustic comfort.

What type of sound class should buildings meet

The ambient sound level of newly designed duplexes, blocks of flats, blocked dwellings, some noise-sensitive non-residential buildings shall not be lower than C. The sound class of dwelling buildings shall be designed at the request of the builder (customer), but not less than E.

In the course of reconstruction or major repairs of buildings, when construction works related to structural alterations to partitions are carried out, the internal quality of the environment protection against noise of buildings (premises) and adjoining premises must not be lowered and correspond to the values of the corresponding indicators applicable to E sound class, – if the building or the purpose of his individual premises is not changed.

When changing the purpose of a building (premises), the quality of the noise protection shall correspond to the values of the corresponding indicators applicable to the sound level of the C (buildings) of the relevant buildings.

We provide the following services:

  • The sound class of the building or its parts is evaluated by natural acoustic measurements;
  • We issue sound classification protocols.

Investigations are carried out by an accredited laboratory;

We conduct research all over Lithuania.
